Extended duration orbiter (EDO) with spacelab module depicted in art concep

Description: This cutaway drawing depicts a typical Extended Duration Orbiter (EDO) configuration with the EDO cryogenic (CRYO) pallet mounted in the aft end of the payload bay (PLB) behind the Spacelab (SL) module. This pallet carries the extra cryogenic fuel (hydrogen and oxygen) required to extend the space shuttle orbiter's stay time onorbit to 16 days plus two weather days. Also shown directly behind the crew cabin and in front of the SL module is an expanded tunnel adapter which is a possible option on how to increase available stowage volume for extended missions.
