STS-55 MS3 Harris in EMU & CCA tests equipment prior to EVA simulation at J

Description: STS-55 Columbia, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 102, Mission Specialist 3 (MS3) Bernard A. Harris, Jr, wearing extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) and communications carrier assembly (CCA), listens to instructions during a communications check prior to an underwater simulation in JSC's Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF) Bldg 29 pool. When checkout procedures are complete, Harris will don EMU helmet (held by technician in the foreground). Then, the platform he is standing on will be lowered into the WETF's 25-foot deep pool. Once underwater, Harris will perform contingency extravehicular activity (EVA) procedures. There is no scheduled EVA for the 1993 flight but each space flight crew includes astronauts trained for a variety of contingency tasks that could require exiting the shirt-sleeve environment of a Shuttle's cabin.
