STS-65 Mission Specialist Thomas sits on the poolside during bailout traini

Description: STS-65 Mission Specialist Donald A. Thomas, fully suited in a launch and entry suit (LES) and launch and entry helmet (LEH), sits on the poolside of the Johnson Space Center's (JSC's) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF) Bldg 29. During this bailout training session, Thomas will be suspended via his parachute harness (note straps extended in front of him) over the WETF pool and then dropped. Thomas will practice deploying flotation devices and a single person life raft once in the water. The training is part of preflight preparations for his mission aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 102. Thomas along with six other crewmembers will spend approximately two weeks aboard OV-102 next year in support of the second International Microgravity Laboratory (IML-2) mission.
